Irish in Mexico
The Irish have a rich history in Mexico: the Mexican icon Zorro was based on Wexford man William Lamport, while the Saint Patrick’s Battalion is famous for switching sides during the Mexican–American War. Today, the Irish-Mexican relationship is stronger than ever, with €2.5 Billion in bilateral trade. There is an Irish Embassy and Irish Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City and an Irish Honorary Consulate in Cancún.
